Making a Blueberry Smoothie

Blueberry Smoothie

blueberry smoothieI have to admit that this isn’t the most exciting Blueberry Smoothie video recipe I’ve ever reviewed, but all the basics are in there.  With simple ingredients like bananas, frozen blueberries, blueberry preserves, milk and ice, making the smoothie could be easier than watching the video.

That said, this is an interesting way to show what goes into a Blueberry Smoothie! This quick and easy video shows all the ingredients in a clear and concise way.

Fruit Juice Smoothie Require a Juicer?

fruit juice smoothieDo You Need a Juicer to Make a Fruit Juice Smoothie?

I want to get in the habit of making my own fruit juice smoothie at home but I don’t have a juicer nor do I know anything about purchasing one.   Is there any way to make a fruit juice smoothie without a juicer?

A Fruit Juice Smoothie Doesn’t Need a Juicer

The answer to this one is simple.  No.

You can use a juicer to make juice, especially specialty juices.  Think things like carrot juice, beet juice, cabbage juice, etc.  Juicers do a great job of extracting the juice from what might otherwise be considered “non-juicy” vegetables.

But if you are looking to make a Fruit Juice Smoothie, all you need is:

  • Fruit juice — you can use canned, frozen, or fresh squeezed
  • A base — normally ice cream, yogurt, frozen bananas, or frozen yogurt
  • Ice cubes — alternatively, you could freeze the fruit juice into cubes

Blend the ingredients in a blender, and you should be good to go!

Low Calorie Smoothie Recipe

Low Calorie Smoothie Recipe

Low Calorie Smoothie RecipeHere’s a novel approach to recording a Low Calorie Smoothie Recipe that I really love. OK, it is a bit long, but the narration and background music make it a pleasure to watch.

This is a very basic smoothie recipe that uses bananas as the only fruit. The addition of soy milk to the recipe makes this a great low calorie smoothie recipe for those who suffer from lactose intolerance. Just skip the optional yogurt if this is the case.

I think you’ll have to agree that the smoothie could be made in a few minutes, rather than the nearly 9 minutes that Cam takes in the recording. To end up with two great tasting portions of smoothies, with only about 233 calories each, in that amount of time is a great find.

Enjoy!

Low Calorie Smoothie Recipe Ingredients

  • 2 whole bananas, sliced and frozen
  • 1 cup vanilla soy milk
  • 6 ounces vanilla yogurt (optional)
  • 1 cup ice
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Blend the bananas, soy milk and yogurt until smooth. Add the ice and blend until ice is finely chopped and well blended. Add honey and vanilla extract and blend till mixed fully.

Pour this into two glasses and enjoy the fruits of your labors from making this low calorie smoothie recipe.

Fruit Juice in a Smoothie Instead of Yogurt

fruit juice in a smoothieI have found many smoothie recipes that sound really good, but all of them include yogurt (or sorbet or soy milk, etc) and I’d rather use just fruit and fruit juice in a smoothie (and ice if needed). I will use Splenda to sweeten if needed. So yeah I just need to know how much fruit/juice to add to a smoothie recipe that has, say, one cup of yogurt/sorbet/soymilk. Like a ratio or something. I can do math to adjust the amount once I have that established.

Using Fruit Juice in a Smoothie

Replacing yogurt with fruit juice in a smoothie isn’t a bad thing.  The biggest difference you’ll notice is that the smoothie will be more watery.  Sure… you can freeze the fruit juice or use ice cubes to help thicken the smoothie, but it won’t be as effective as using a base of yogurt.  What you can use to replace the thickening effect of yogurt is either a meal replacement powder (I like MetRx Vanilla), or even a sugar-free pudding mix.

You can always experiment with other things, such as thicker fruits (banana, muskmelon, papaya) or other bases.  And you’ll want to experiment with the mix ratio, so I don’t have a good answer to that.  But, to answer your question, “Yes, you can drop the yogurt and use fruit juice in a smoothie!”

Strawberry Almond Grape Juice Smoothie

Starts with a Grape Juice Smoothie Base

Enjoy a healthy breakfast grape juice smoothie made with fresh strawberries, whole almonds, and grape juice.  A filling way to start your day!

You can use white grape juice when making these with the kiddies, or a darker grape juice when you make them yourself.  Just be careful — dark grape juice, a blender and a lose cover can spell disaster in a pretty white kitchen.

Making a Grape Juice Smoothie

  • 1 cup white grape juice
  • 6-8 frozen strawberries
  • 7-8 whole almonds

Blend together and drink this grape juice smoothie to help keep you feeling full all day long!
