Do You Remember the Milkshake in a Carton?

milkshake in a cartonMilkshake in a Carton?

OK.  So when I was a kid, there were these little milkshake in a carton things, that came in a milk carton. And it was really good, but they don’t sell them anymore. The vanilla milkshake was in a blue carton. And the chocolate milkshake was in a brown carton. I would love any information, like the brand, or like a website. Thank you so much.

Cadbury Caramilk Chocolate Caramel Milkshake Knockoff

Cadbury Caramilk Chocolate Caramel MilkshakeCadbury Caramilk Chocolate Caramel Milkshake Knockoff – Try as I might, I couldn’t find an actual video for making a Cadbury Caramilk Chocolate Caramel Milkshake, but I did manage to find a pretty good substitute. Another problem I ran into is that I couldn’t seem to find a source to buy Cadbury Caramilk drinks in the US. If I’m understanding it correctly, this is a bottled milkshake like those in the picture above.

What I found instead is this video of a Dad and his family mixing up a batch of milkshakes fashioned after the Cadbury Caramilk Chocolate Caramel Milkshake. I think you’ll love the outcome. I know you’ll love to experiment with the different candy ingredients he uses – either Cadbury Eggs or Rollos.

Survey Says: “The Best Milkshake in the World is…”

the best milkshake

I haven’t tasted every milk shake in the world, but I have tasted many. My favorite milkshake in the world is the legendary McDonald’s Strawberry Milkshake. It is just the best.

In your opinion who makes the best milkshake, and what flavor is it?

Tangy Strawberry Rhubarb Milkshake

I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t like Rhubarb, and a Rhubarb Milkshake, even with the strawberries, doesn’t sound great to me. But I know that many people love it.

I found this yummy recipe over on Babble.com. It does take some pre-planning to make, as the rhubarb and strawberries need to be cooked first.

Rhubarb has the texture of celery until it’s cooked. Here are the ingredients:

  • 3-4 Large Stalks of Rhubarb, chopped into 1″ pieces
  • 2 cups of strawberries, hulled and halved
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Vanilla Ice Cream, as needed

Add the water, rhubarb, strawberries and sugar to a saucepan and heat over medium to low heat, stirring often. When the rhubarb is soft and the mixture is thick, taste it. If it needs more sweetening, add some more sugar. Move it to a bowl, and refrigerate until completely chilled.

Measure the strawberry-rhubarb blend, then add it to a blender. Add double the amount of ice cream (a 2:1 mix) to the blender. Add a splash of milk. Blend until smooth. Add more ice cream to thicken or more milk to thin the mix.

Chopped RhubarbServe the Strawberry-Rhubarb Milkshake immediately, preferably in a chilled glass.

Avocado and Date Milkshake

Avocado and Date MilkshakeWhen you think of Morocco, you can’t help but think of dates and figs. This avocado and date milkshake makes use of one of those rich fruits.

This milkshake is a bit different from those that most of you are used to. It gets its thickness from avocados and doesn’t use ice cream.

You’ll need to make a quick trip to a local Middle Eastern market (or buy them below) to find come of these ingredients, especially the dates and orange-flower water. Most of the remaining ingredients can be found at your local grocer, unless you decide to use goat’s milk, which may be harder to find.

Avocado and Date Milkshake Ingredients

  • 4 Medjoul dates
  • Orange-flower water
  • 1 large ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup blanched almonds
  • 1 quart goat’s or cow’s milk, divided
  • 1 tablespoon sugar, or more to taste

Start by wiping the dates with some orange-flower water, then remove the pits and cut them into small chunks. Peel and pit the avocados, and cut them into large chunks.

Combine the dates, avocados, almonds and two cups of milk into a blender. Add sugar and puree until smooth, tasting to see if more sugar is needed.

Pitted AvocadoPour the mixer through a sieve or strainer, then use a wooden spoon to press out the remaining liquid. This leaves only the solids, which can be thrown out.

Pour one cup of water into a glass, then add ice cubes and stir to cool water fully. Stir in remaining milk, 1 or 2 teaspoons of orange-flower water, and 1 cup of ice water (no ice). Add sugar to taste.

Pour this rich avocado and date milkshake into glasses and chill cold.

Cantaloupe Milkshake

I have to admit that I’d never heard of a Cantaloupe Milkshake before I saw this video, but now I’m dying to try one. These gals from Show Me the Curry seem to have what looks like a winner here! The only thing is that I think this leans more toward a cantaloupe smoothie than a cantaloupe milkshake. I’d swap in vanilla ice cream for the milk or ice to make it more ‘milkshakey’.

One other thing I love and learned from this video is a unique way to measure the main ingredients in a milkshake or even a smoothie. They start the recipe out by pouring the main ingredients (fruit, milk and ice) into two glasses. When finished, the recipe makes [surprise!] just enough to fill those same glasses. Absolutely brilliant!

How to Make a Cantaloupe Milkshake

Fill a glass with cantaloupe, then pour milk into the glass to the top. Fill another glass with ice cubes to the top. Add both to a blender, then add a small amount (1/4 teaspoon) of cardamom powder. Add sweetener, if desired. Blend well, and pour into the original glasses.

As I said above, I’d be tempted to use ice cream in the recipe. Perhaps the best way to do this is to use ice cream instead of ice when filling the second glass. You may still need to add some ice to cool the drink fully. Be sure to store the cantaloupe in the refrigerator for an hour or two before making the shake if you go the ice cream route to help keep the ice cream from melting.

Avocado Milkshake – Healthy Green Milkshake

Avocado Milkshake PictureIf you’ve never tried an Avocado Milkshake before, now is the time. The rich, thick, buttery taste and texture of avocados adds a surprising flavor to an average milkshake.

Most people think that an Avocado Milkshake would taste like guacamole. This isn’t really the case, especially when other fruits are added. Here are a couple of recipes using the humble avocado.

Avocado Milkshake with Banana

This is a healthier version of Avocado Milkshake, inspired by a recipe I found on J.Flo Fashion. It uses ingredients that are more nutritious than the typical ice cream variety.

  • 1 Avocado
  • 1 Banana
  • 2 Tablespoons Agave Nectar
  • 1 Cup Coconut Milk
  • 1 Cup of Ice

Put all the ingredients in your blender and blend away!

California Avocado Milkshake Recipe

Here’s a tasty recipe that’s a more typical milkshake. This one comes via the California Avocado Commission. This one is all about the ice cream, baby!

  • 2 Ripe, Fresh California Avocados (8 oz each)
  • 2 Cups Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 2 Cups Whole Milk
  • 2 Teaspoons Pure Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Teaspoons Lemon Extract

Throw it all into a blender or milkshake maker and blend until smooth, then pour into four glasses.

Grow Your Own Avocado Tree

Here’s a fun fact! You can grow your own avocado tree from the pit inside the avocado you used to make your milkshake from. This is really more a fun project than a way to grow your own avocados, since it takes 7-15 years to produce fruit, and the fruit will not taste the same as the grafted varieties you are used to eating. But it is a fun experience for your child to do.

Learn more about growing your own avocado tree at the California Avocado Commission website.
