Classic Banana Smoothie Recipe
This Classic Banana Smoothie is made with only three ingredients. The smoothie tastes like its major ingredient would indicate – like banana. Yogurt adds some creaminess to the smoothie and the honey sweetens it naturally.
Without a doubt this is one of the easiest to make smoothies you’ll ever come across.
- 1 ripe banana, peeled and broken in chunks
- ½ cup low-fat yogurt, plain
- 1 tablespoon honey
- Add the yogurt and honey to a blender
- Set blender to low speed
- Add bananas, slowly
- Increase speed to high and blend until smooth
Classic Banana Smoothie Ingredients
Bananas are a primary component of many tasty smoothies. Bananas can be used fresh or frozen.
To freeze bananas, peel them and break them into chunks. Place them into freezer bags for later use. Frozen bananas help thicken smoothies better than fresh bananas.
Bananas add plenty of potassium to your diet, as well as iron, magnesium and vitamin B6.
Yogurt is a fantastic thickener for smoothies. It can also add a special tartness to a smoothie.
In most cases, a plain lowfat yogurt will work well for making smoothies with. Yogurt also comes flavored, and can be used along with the primary fruit. For example, adding Blueberry Yogurt to a Blueberry Smoothie can be a flavor boost.
Look for yogurts that contain live cultures. They can add beneficial bacteria to your digestive system.
Honey is a natural sweetener that comes packed with amino acids, and B, C, D and E vitamins.
Honey is a unique food, in that you can keep it at room temperature without having it spoil.
Honey is dense with sugars, so be sure you don’t go overboard.
