Secrets to A Frozen Mixed Fruit Smoothie

Making a smoothie from frozen fruit makes a lot of sense.  In fact, one of the best secrets for making a thick fruit smoothie is to start with frozen fruit.

But if you try to just put a bunch of frozen fruit into a blender in hopes of making a smoothie, you’ll be a bit disappointed.  You’ll end up with a lot of noise, big chucks of frozen fruit, and not so much ‘smooth’.

The secret to making a good frozen mixed fruit smoothie is to add some liquid to the mix.  If you are starting with a lot of frozen fruit, you’ll most likely want to start with some milk.  You may also find it easier to blend if you thaw about a cup of the frozen fruit before you start.

Here’s a recipe I’d suggest:

Frozen Mixed Fruit Smoothie

  • 1 cup frozen mixed fruit, thawed
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 fresh banana, 1″ chunks
  • 1 cup frozen mixed fruit, frozen

Place the thawed fruit, milk, and banana chunks into the blender, then ‘pulse’ blend a few times until fruit and milk are well mixed.  Increase the speed to high, and feed the frozen fruit through the opening in the top of the blender, a few pieces at a time.  Blend until smooth.

    Mixed Fruits Smoothie

    • 1 15-ounce can mixed fruit, chilled
    • 1/2 cup (4 ounces) milk
    • 1/2 cup orange juice
    • 6-8 ice cubes

    1. Combine ingredients in blender.
    2. Cover and blend on high until smooth.
    3. Add more ice cubes for a thicker consistency.

  3. You can use frozen fruit instead of ice, unless you like your smoothies think like i do, I usually do:
1c. light vanilla soy milk (can be any kind of milk)
    1.5c. frozen fruit
    .5c. vanilla ice cream
    add ice if needed
    hope this helps 🙂

  4. Yes, you can use frozen fruit. I would suggest that you thaw it out a bit though, as it is hard to get it to blend to a creamy consistency otherwise. Other smoothie ingredients are fruit juice, water, or milk + yogurt, frozen yogurt, or ice cream. Try honey if you want a sweetener.
