Lemon Blueberry Smoothie Ingredients
Milk is a great source of casein and whey proteins. It also adds vitamin D, calcium and riboflavin to your smoothie.
You can use whole milk, or substitute 2% or 1% milk to reduce the fat in your smoothie.
Other options for milk include goat’s milk, soy milk, almond milk, coconut milk and rice milk.
Bananas are a primary component of many tasty smoothies. Bananas can be used fresh or frozen.
To freeze bananas, peel them and break them into chunks. Place them into freezer bags for later use. Frozen bananas help thicken smoothies better than fresh bananas.
Bananas add plenty of potassium to your diet, as well as iron, magnesium and vitamin B6.
Blueberries are a common ingredient of many fruit smoothies, thanks to the color they impart. The beautiful purple-blue color is just lovely.
Blueberries contain a component that helps to prevent urinary tract infections, as well as some that improve night vision.
Generally, blueberries are best used frozen in smoothies. If you choose fresh blueberries, be sure to check for stems and spoiled berries and then rinse and drain them.
Lemon Juice makes a great addition to many smoothies. The tart taste adds to the smoothie, adding a recognizable flavor.
This is one time where it really pays to use fresh. Bottled lemon juice just doesn’t do justice to the flavor that fresh lemon juice supplies.
Since most smoothies use only a small amount of lemon juice, there isn’t much nutrition provided by the juice.
