Frozen Hot Chocolate: Magic in a Blender

If a Hot Chocolate sounds good on a cold winter day, then a Frozen Hot Chocolate has to be magic on a hot summer day!

This icy taste treat does take some time, since you have to make hot chocolate and then cool it, but the wait is worth it.  If you are planning to serve Frozen Hot Chocolate for a group of any size, try making it in two phases.  Cook the hot chocolate in the morning, and then prepare the frozen drink once your guests have arrived.


Frozen Hot Chocolate Recipe

There are some basic ingredients that you’ll need for this chocolaty delight.  These aren’t always something you’d have sitting in your kitchen, so you’ll want to make sure you plan ahead for this one.

Frozen Hot Chocolate Ingredients

  • 3 ounces high-quality chocolate
  • 2 teaspoons store-bought hot chocolate mix
  • 1-1/2 Tbsp.  sugar
  • 1/2 cup plus 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups ice cubes
  • whipped cream
  • chocolate shavings

To make a Frozen Hot Chocolate, start by chopping up the chocolate and melting it in a saucepan over low heat.  Add the hot chocolate mix and sugar, while stirring continually.

When smooth, remove from the heat and add 1/2 cup milk gradually, stirring the entire time.  When smoothly blended, set to one side and allow to cool to room temperature.

To prepare the cold drink add the chocolate blend to a blender, add the remaining milk and ice cubes.  Blend on high until the mix reaches the consistency of a daiquiri.

Pour the frozen drink into a pretty Margarita glass, and garnish with whipped cream.  Sprinkle the chocolate shavings onto the whipped cream and serve your Frozen Hot Chocolate right away.
