Cantaloupe Milkshake

I have to admit that I’d never heard of a Cantaloupe Milkshake before I saw this video, but now I’m dying to try one. These gals from Show Me the Curry seem to have what looks like a winner here! The only thing is that I think this leans more toward a cantaloupe smoothie than a cantaloupe milkshake. I’d swap in vanilla ice cream for the milk or ice to make it more ‘milkshakey’.

One other thing I love and learned from this video is a unique way to measure the main ingredients in a milkshake or even a smoothie. They start the recipe out by pouring the main ingredients (fruit, milk and ice) into two glasses. When finished, the recipe makes [surprise!] just enough to fill those same glasses. Absolutely brilliant!

How to Make a Cantaloupe Milkshake

Fill a glass with cantaloupe, then pour milk into the glass to the top. Fill another glass with ice cubes to the top. Add both to a blender, then add a small amount (1/4 teaspoon) of cardamom powder. Add sweetener, if desired. Blend well, and pour into the original glasses.

As I said above, I’d be tempted to use ice cream in the recipe. Perhaps the best way to do this is to use ice cream instead of ice when filling the second glass. You may still need to add some ice to cool the drink fully. Be sure to store the cantaloupe in the refrigerator for an hour or two before making the shake if you go the ice cream route to help keep the ice cream from melting.

Here's my version of this tasty Cantaloupe Milkshake blended with Cardamom Powder
Ingredients
  • 1 Ripe Cantaloupe
  • 1 Pint Vanilla Ice Cream
  • 1 Cup Ice Cubes
  • 1 Cup Milk
  • ¼ Teaspoon Cardamom Powder
Instructions
  1. Cube the flesh of the Cantaloupe into a bowl
  2. Sprinkle Cardamom Powder on Cantaloupe
  3. Scoop the Ice Cream into a blender
  4. Add Milk to blender
  5. Pulse the blender a couple times, then set on medium speed
  6. Add the Cantaloupe to blender, being careful to avoid splashes
  7. Cover the blender, leaving the opening in the cover open
  8. Increase blender to highest speed
  9. Feed Ice Cubes through opening in cover
  10. Blend until smooth
  11. Pour into tall glasses

Fruit Smoothie Recipe Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberry halves, washed and capped
  • 1/2 cup fresh pineapple chunks
  • 1 sliced banana
  • 1/3 cup Splenda (or sugar or other artificial sweetener)
  • 1/2 cup skim milk (You may use regular or 2% milk.)

Place 1/2 cup halved strawberries, 1/2 cup pineapple chunks, 1 sliced banana, 1/3 cup Splenda or sugar, and 1/2 cup milk in a blender. Set to “blend” or “puree” and turn the blender on for 20 or 30 seconds, or until the mixture is smooth. Pour your Fruit Smoothie from the blender into an appropriately-sized glass. Spoon or drink your smoothie immediately! Yummy and healthy!!!

Note: You may change the fruits to different fruits–and you may use just 1 or 2 fruits, or even more than 3, if you prefer. You may add more or less milk, depending on how thick you like your smoothie. This fruit smoothie recipe is just a good place to start!
